Hiwi the kiwi came into my school to teach us about

what to do on a boat and some things to teach adults.

Life Jackets

Hiwi the kiwi taught us to always wear a life jacket when
your going in deep water.
Even if you are going in a kayak in shallow water still
wear a life jacket.
Did you know that 9 children died in
2017 because they didn’t

wear a life jacket that's why life jackets are super
important when your going into deep water. This
is what can happen if you don't
wear a life jacket if you wear a

life jacket you will bob up and down the you might
vomit. Life jackets are bright so when people are looking

for you they will find you. If you don't wear a life jacket
then you might die on a boat.

Plastic and birds.

Did you know that SOS means save our seabirds. The

minstrels talked about how their favourite bird is the

Black petrel. These birds are dying from plastic and

there are not many left so if you just take out plastic that

you see in the water you are saving the seabirds.  Sea

birds think plastic is food and birds think its fish so they dive down to grab the plastic and then they sadly die after that. This is how seabirds are dying off so we must

make an effort to stop putting plastic in the water. If you don’t take the plastic out of the water then the birds will

die and none will be left

Fish

If your ever going fishing than you would be used to

having to measure the fish that you catch did you know
that the snappers that you catch have to be 30 cms or

over. Did you know that if you pick up a fish without
a wet towel you'll harm the fish tremendously after
you

hurt the fish and if it's to small or big when you put
it back in the water the fish will die.
Fishing for the future is

important because you might take all the fish and
then there will be no more Kaimoana for us to eat.
If you catch a snapper mesure it from the middle of
its tail to the end of its nose. Dont keep the small
fish that you

catch because then they can’t grow to be a breeding
size so they can't reproduce. If you keep the small fish
then there will be no more fish.

Remember when you go fishing or on little boats and
kayaks you always need to wear a life jacket,to
measure the fish you catch,to always hold a fish with
salt water

on your hands or salt water on a towel.
SOS Save Our Seabirds. To always take plastic out
of the water. Always measure the fish from the
middle of its tail to the tip of

its nose.

Remember to always be safe out in the water.
